We can create an overall “master plan” for your home or even provide small designs for specific areas.

DESIGN PROCESS

Landscape Design Step by Step. Let us know that you’re interested

It’s that simple. A member of our design team will make an appointment to meet with you, at your convenience. Remember, we design every month of the year.

Meet your Designer & Collaborate
This is when your needs & thoughts meet our ideas & talents. For us to better understand your style & preferences, you may bring along pictures & inspirations, as well as a list of favorite plants you like. We will spend this time evaluating your objectives & understanding the uses of your outdoor area. At this time, we will provide you with a design fee & general estimate.

Designer On Site Visit

Following our initial meeting, your landscape designer will do a site assessment for your project area. This involves:

Taking measurements, photos & detailed notes about the area to be designed & landscaped.
Determining drainage, soil compositions, exposure to sunlight & weather & other important functional considerations.
Considering how design elements such as color, structure, texture & form should be incorporated.

Creating the Design
Now your designer puts pencil to paper & creates your ultimate landscape. This involves:

Carefully choosing plants that will work based on growth habits, mature size, & adaptability to on-site conditions.
Combining plants based on color, texture, & form to create the dynamic, pleasing & functional landscape that will work for you.

Design Presentation
Once the design is complete, you will be presented with a landscape plan. You will also receive a breakdown of costs, including a list of all plant materials, necessary soil amendments, mulch, etc. & installation fees. At this time, you may work with your designer to make adjustments & changes. Once the final details have been worked out, your landscape project is scheduled & we move on to the final phase ... PLANTING.

DESIGN STAFF

Vernon Sims

Vernon is our senior landscape designer & graduate of the University of Kentucky horticulture program. He has been a part of Wilson Nurseries for 19 years, beginning as a nursery manager. For the past 12 years his focus has been on designing residential & commercial landscapes. His design portfolio includes Brookdale Farms, The Vineyards, Frankfort Christian Academy, Georgetown College & Discher Estates.

Brianna Forbes

Brianna is a Landscape Architecture graduate of the University of Kentucky. She has been a vital part of the physical grounds design & layout of Wilson's for 8 years. Brianna is a key member of the Wilson's Creative & Visual Design Teams. Her experience is in community planning & urban revitalization. She is your link to the Landscape Design department in our retail nursery, specializing in focus-area design projects.

Let us do the work! The benefits of having your landscape planted by our experienced, professional landscape crews are many. You may choose to have your design implemented all at once for immediate gratification or installed in phases. The advantages include:

All or part of the design fee is deducted from your invoice.
An extended 2-year warranty on plants that we install.
Two follow up “house calls” to ensure your plants are doing well.
A 15% discount on items in our Garden Center Boutique for 3 months after your landscape is planted. This allows you to choose some nice decorative additions for your new landscape & to purchase fertilizers & products that will give your plants a little help along the way.
